President’s Message, October 2025

The Annual General Meeting seemed an appropriate time to unveil Toronto Pflag’s new website. Like the beginning of a new school year, the AGM feels like a fresh start, especially with several new additions to the board. We have also welcomed a number of new volunteers to key positions this year, which has both lightened the load and energized those roles.

As AGM attendees heard from our branding and website partners, Goods & Services Branding, the new logo both updates our style and reinforces Toronto Pflag’s unique place within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It refocuses visually on the parent/child connection, which is at the heart of our mission. “Keeping families together” is more than a tagline for Toronto Pflag; it’s our driving motivation.

One of the website additions I’m most excited about is this News & Views page. In addition to regular updates and commentary from the president, you’ll hear from other board members and volunteers. We also welcome and encourage submissions from parents, allies, and, of course, our amazing 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

I invite you to read Giselle’s piece on why she has been such a committed Toronto Pflag volunteer for over 15 years. It perfectly captures the spirit of the organization and why we use the term “Pflag family” when we talk about the community that has grown from its grassroots over 50 years ago. If it inspires you, check out our “Get Involved” page to see whether there are opportunities for you to contribute your own talents and passion.

While I am excited and enthusiastic about Toronto Pflag’s continued evolution, I have no illusions about the current climate our community and loved ones face. Canada may have been at the forefront of marriage equality, but we’re also experiencing some of the same backsliding we see globally. In addition to our support work, our education work and our advocacy has never been more important.

As one of the only organizations that focuses on supporting parents and 2SLGBTQIA+ families, it’s vital that we reach parents who don’t know what to make of the conflicting information they’re hearing and what it means—or could mean—for their own children. It’s so important that we offer free workshops to parent groups, so spread the word to the parent/community groups in your life!

Thank you for being part of our community and keep coming back to this space for more Toronto Pflag News & Views!
