Changing names and gender markers
Some transgender people choose to legally change their name and/or gender marker on their IDs to accurately match their identities. Below is some guidance on the process in Ontario.
Forms for Ontario
You’ll need to fill out two forms: one to change your name and one to change your gender marker. Ontario has no requirements for surgery or invasive procedures. You can do both at the same time, or separately if you prefer.
Need further guidance?
If you're looking for support in this process, The 519 hosts the free Guided Trans ID Self-Help Program on the third Monday of each month, providing information and assistance with this process.
