PRIDE

every June

Pride Toronto is an amazing celebration of the LGBTQ2S+ community. It takes place in the Church & Wellesley area of Toronto every June, and includes a weekend long streetfair, many entertainment events, and several Parades.

Toronto Pflag has a booth you can visit if you’d like to chat with us! We also have a contingent marching in the Trans March on Friday evening and the huge Pride Parade Sunday afternoon.

If you are new to the LGBTQ2S+ world, this can be a wonderful joyous introduction. Bring your kid - or, if they prefer to attend with friend, come hang with us!

IDAHTB

every may 17*

The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia was created in 2004 to draw the attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people. It encompasses all people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics. There are events in more than 130 countries around the world. Here, Toronto Pflag organizes an event at City Hall featuring a flag-raising, a Proclamation by the Mayor, and speeches.

During the pandemic, the flags were still raised and proclamations made, but without an in person event on the City Hall Plaza.

Now we are back in-person at City Hall, outside on the plaza!

The theme for each year's celebrations of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia #IDAHOBIT #IDAHTB is elected by a large group of international and regional LGBTQ2S+ networks.

The Day of Pink is the International Day against Bullying, Discrimination, Homophobia, Transphobia, and Transmisogyny across the world. We invite everyone to celebrate diversity by wearing a pink shirt and by organizing activities in their workplaces, schools and communities. Learn more at the Day of Pink website. April is usually a busy month for Toronto Pflag as it’s a popular time for school presentations. Book early if you’d like us to visit that month!

national Coming Out day

October 11

National Coming Out Day is a time to celebrate the act of telling friends and family that one is gay, trans, bi, lesbian, non-binary, asexual, queer, or any other gender or sexual minority. Some people choose this day to come out publicly, but of course one can decide to share their news at whatever time - and pace - feel right for them. Some schools hold assemblies where LGBTQ2S+ students and staff tell their stories, and some school community members find this to be an inspirational time to let their peers know about their identity.
